Learn French

ADULT CLASSES

We provide a 10-week French language course with various levels. Our program is designed to accommodate adult learners at different stages of their language proficiency from beginners to advanced levels. Our courses are specifically designed to equip students with a high degree of confidence to use French in everyday conversations by incorporating authentic French expressions and idioms commonly used in France today.

To join our course, we offer a 20-minute Review & Taster class. This class serves as an assessment to ensure that learners are placed in the most suitable group based on their skill level and needs. It also allows us to tailor the learning experience to each individual, enhancing the overall learning outcome.

We have two convenient locations in South London where our classes are held – one at the Telegraph Hill Centre (SE14 5TY) between New Cross Gate and Brockley, and another at the Harris Academy Clapham (SW4 8LD). Our classes have  a duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes in groups no larger than 16 people. There will be morning & evening classes starting from March & April 2024.

A package of ten classes costs £180.

What will I learn?

This course is a great continuation from the beginner’s course. It is designed for learners who have a grasp of elementary vocabulary and the present tense and would like to specifically improve on the accuracy of their speaking. These classes aim to build upon elementary grammar by guiding students to use proper and more complicated grammatical structures such as learning to conjugate prepositions relative to time and space. E.g. à le début becomes au début – at first.  Additionally, the course will help students develop fluency by sequencing and linking sentences with conjunctions using dialogues and role plays exercises within a range of daily topics targeting new vocabulary and grammatical patterns.

‘Spending many family holidays in France, I was keen to brush up on my speaking skills and recall any lasting knowledge from my Tricolore school days! I couldn’t have found a better course to attend. Axelle carefully gaged my level and so I was mixed with a group of equal ability pupils, all in a local space. We immediately engaged in French conversation, focussing on verbs, the current and the past perfect tense. Axelle has been brilliant at ensuring that we have understood the lesson and following up with posting class notes and of course the obligatory homework online. It has been an enriching experience and now I can’t wait to return to France with confidence to parlez Français!’

‘Axelle is an encouraging and experienced teacher.  There is a good mix in the lessons between grammar and reading, speaking and listening to French – this makes for an enjoyable and productive time.  Axelle is clear about what she expects from her class and in her responses to their questions.  Her explanations of the intricacies of the grammar are always appropriate. Her good organisation and well-structured classes have meant I have learnt a huge amount during this course of lessons.’

‘I found this course very enjoyable. Axelle did an assessment before we started so that all students were at a similar level. There was a nice mix of standard grammar and everyday colloquial expressions. The pace of the class was good, with lots of opportunities to practice both written and spoken French. The material was interesting and we were also invited to bring items from the week’s news for discussion.’
